Laser Machining
Laser Machining Services, Equipment, and Advantages

Laser Machining at Hunt and Hunt Ltd.
We continue to upgrade our laser machining expertise and production capacity. We now have 9 laser machining centers designed for high speed production machining of flat stock, tubing or pipe stock and three dimensional parts.

"3D lasers cut a wider product swath - Rethinking the way parts are processed"

Laser Machining Advantages
Laser Machining Oilfield Perforating Tools
  • Easy Setup - CNC Controlled
  • Faster Cutting Speeds
  • Reduced tooling and fixture requirements
  • Profiles cut without tooling change out or wear
  • Laser vaporizes metal being cut without burrs, eliminating secondary processes
  • No tool contact - No induced stress, ideal for thin walled tubing
  • Potential for manufacturing cost reduction over conventional machining methods
  • Laser machining and surface marking can be achieved in the same setup and operation
  • Close tolerances held with excellent repeatability
  • Good material versatility
Three Dimensional Laser Machining
Mazak U44 Space Gear Laser Our newest addition is a 7-axis 3D "Mazak U44 Space Gear" laser machining center capable of cutting complex parts in a single operation. Complex components can be machined with less tooling, without work piece stress loading and with fewer secondary operations.

These advantages can help reduce startup costs, product "time to market" and overall production time.

Laser Machining Tubular Stock
Custom Rotary Laser Machining Centers We continue to improve our Custom Rotary Laser Machining Centers, substantially advancing our "in-house" tube and pipe stock manufacturing capabilities, quality and output capacity.

Many downhole tools used in the Oil Industry have thin walled tubular housings and components which are ideal rotary laser machining candidates. Perforating gun charge carriers for example, have thin walls that could be easily distorted by tool pressure. Many of the profiles in perforating tools are complicated geometries which would be costly to machine conventionally. In fact, laser profiling allows the engineer more latitude in original design geometry.

These 7 machines are designed for precision, high performance and heavy duty service. The indexing and feed rates are only limited by the power of the laser itself. These new rotary laser machining centers have up to a 30ft x 6.25in diameter work piece capacity.

Laser Machining Flat or Sheet Stock
Trumpf Flatbed 2D Laser Machining CenterAfter careful consideration, we chose a TRUMPF TRUMATIC L 4030 (TruLaser 3040) to meet our flat sheet cutting needs. TRUMPF is renowned for their flat bed or 2D laser machining centers. The L 4030 has a great mix of speed (up to 3,340 inches/min), versatility and precision, comes equipped with rapid changeover and setup features, and is compatible with advanced automation.

Operating on the principle of "flying optics", the cutting head moves over the stationary work piece. The non-contact automatic height sensing system working in conjunction with the automatic laser beam focusing system to virtually guarantee optimal results in any material type or thickness.

Size is not an issue with this working range (x:y:z), 162 inch x 83 inch x .875 inch.
